SkillsUSA... United as One!

We are getting very excited to bring the Vermont Delegation to the 2022 NLSC... make sure to prepare and practice your skills to win medals and earn your place among the National Championships!

Please read below for the latest update from our State Officer team...

It's hard to believe that the 2022 SkillsUSA Vermont Spring Leadership Conference and Skills Championships are less than three months away! The SkillsUSA Vermont Leadership Team is hard at work developing conference scenarios and competition strategies that will allow Vermont to stay in alignment with the national organization and also make safety a priority.

As you may know, the 2022 National SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Conference is scheduled to be a 100% in person event in Atlanta Georgia in June of 2022.  Even in light of the most recent COVID variant and the dramatic rise in cases nationwide, there are no plans at the present time to change this.  It is, however, the responsibility of each state association, to determine what is best for their statewide Spring conferences and competitions.

Here are some updates that we can share with you with a relatively high degree of certainty...

  1. There will be NO overnight hotel stay or large scale awards banquet incorporated into the 2022 Spring Conference.
  2. We may contract conference space at the DoubleTree for in person competitions that can't be held at CTE centers or other offsite locations.
  3. The majority of competitive events (whether remote, in person or hybrid) will occur between Saturday, April 2 and Thursday, April 7, 2022.
  4. At this point, we are working hard to find a way to run all 70 leadership and skill events that have been part of SkillsUSA Vermont Championships in past years.  We are in the process of finalizing Contest Managers now.  Updates about specific contest formats will be released as they are finalized by the Contest Managers.  Weekly updates will be featured in the Friday Flash every Friday between now and April 1, 2022.
  5. We do not have plans to introduce ANY new competitions in 2022.  If you know of an event that you think might be appropriate for our state level championships, please let us know as soon as possible.
  6. We are considering the Municipal Auditorium in Barre as the location of an in person Awards Ceremony where greater social distancing is possible.  We are also looking for other suggestions for large spaces if you know of any.
  7. The date of the Awards Ceremony (either in person or online) will be Thursday, April 7th, 2022, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
  8. We are again working with the Vermont Association of General Contractors and The Vermont Army National Guard around developing and running safe, in person competitions at Camp Johnson for the Construction Cluster events (Carpentry, Residential Wiring, Plumbing, Cabinetmaking and Teamworks).
  9. All participants (students, judges, teachers, advisors, etc.) at in person events will be required to show proof of up-to-date vaccination and booster shots as well as a negative COVID test within 48 hours of the event.
  10. Masks will be required at ALL SkillsUSA Vermont sponsored events and competitions.
  11. We have received the green light from Vermont Technical College in Randolph to use their large, open facility (Judd Gym) for events during the week of April 4-8.  Use of smaller competition spaces like classrooms and labs is still under consideration by the college's administration.  The same is true for the Nursing spaces at the Williston campus.
  12. ALL STUDENTS who plan to participate in a leadership or skill competition at the state level MUST be a member of SkillsUSA by March 1, 2022.  This date has been pushed back from the original membership deadline of February 7th, 2022.  There will be NO EXCEPTIONS made to this deadline.
  13. Registration for the 2022 SkillsUSA Vermont Leadership Conference and Skills Championships will open on Friday, March 4th, 2022 and will close on Friday, March 25, 2022.  All registrations will be handled through the National SkillsUSA Registration website.
  14. Registration fees have yet to be finalized but will likely range between $25.00 and $50.00 per participant.

As always, please feel free to reach out to Co-Directors Christopher Gray and Linda Randall if you have questions.

More updates will be coming soon!
